In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.
Several dozen people -- including a pilot, county constable and business owners -- insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.
''People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times,'' said Steve Allen, a freight company owner who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide.
''It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts.''
While federal officials insist there's a logical explanation, locals swear that it was larger, quieter, faster and lower to the ground than an airplane.
They also said the object's lights changed configuration. People in several towns who reported seeing it over several weeks have offered similar descriptions of the object.
This story reminded me of the following image (unrelated to this story) I came across a month or so ago. I wonder if Iraq (this photo was apparently taken in Baghdad) has an environmental protection agency? The guy (or a company) that owns that smoke stack with black smoke oozing out will be in big trouble in the West. I noticed last month that stacks with black smoke coming out is not an unfamiliar site in Vizag area also:-(

Thanks, Gopa. Very interesting, esp. the Baghdad pic.
There are various types of UFOs, btw. Sometime back, there was a Nordic girl who used to blog of XPs with elves, which you couldn't see ;-)
Now..Now....Would we not want to clap our eyes on a snap of THAT UFO encounter!?
Are hundreds of Texans, who saw UFO, too stupid to know how to use camera phones?
The picture is a poor quality hoax. Resolution of the "saucer" edges is higher than that of cables or chimneys, which makes it a small object much closer than chimneys thrown in the air by an idiot photographer.
Re: Texan's w/o camera phones and F. saucer hoax, I agree. I didn't think it was true - I liked for its entertainment value.
Probably the folks who saw people in Stephenville didn't have camera phones.
I wouldn't call them stupid though. We all are ignorant on one thing or the other. If I call them stupid, I should be prepared to be called stupid by the smartest guy (gal) in the world.
I agree, you shouldn't call anyone stupid (especially texans :P), we all are the same, we all say "i would have got a shot of it with my phone" we all like to think we will react certain ways in situations, but when it comes down to it no one knows how they will actually react. I would love to believe that I would quickly, calmly, and steadily take a picture with my camera phone of a flying saucer if I ever saw one, but honestly I'd probably crap my pants before anything else, put yourself in their shoes before you make fun and talk jive about their reactions to the situation.
